System Requirements

Minimum Computer Requirements TourTools® V2 and V3

TourTools® is a complete software solution for package tour operators that has been created in FileMaker, the #1 selling workgroup database in the world.
FileMaker is required to run all versions of TourTools®. TT V3 is currently running in FileMaker 7 and V2 is currently running FileMaker 6. We will be converting TT V2 to run in FileMaker 7 in a few months. TourTech Systems, Inc. does not sell or supply copies of FileMaker products, we suggest you buy them directly from FileMaker.com.

In order to run TourTools® V3, FileMaker 7 version, all of your computer must have Windows 2000, XP or Mac OS X.

TourTools® V2 runs in FileMaker Pro 6 on Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT, XP and/or Mac OS platforms. We will be converting it to FileMaker 7 format later this summer.
You can combine both Windows and Mac platforms within one network. There are certain minimum suggested specifications for the computers that are to be running TourTools® and connected to your network.

The 3 most important factors affecting TourTools® performance are:

  1. The speed and resources of the user’s workstation
  2. The speed and integrity of the network (cabling and hub/switches)
  3. The speed and resources of the server hosting the TourTools® files

The recommended specifications for Windows and Mac Client workstation computers are:

  • A Pentium class processor running at a speed of 400 MHz or faster
  • 256 MB RAM
  • 75 MB of free space on the internal hard drive
  • 17” color monitor with video card to support 256 colors or higher
  • A copy of Windows 2000 or XP Pro or Mac OSX installed on the computer in compliance with the Microsoft or Apple licensing agreement
  • A copy of FileMaker Pro installed on the computer in compliance with the FileMaker Pro licensing agreement
  • A TCP/IP connection to your local area network
  • One computer in your network will be designated as the host for the TourTools® databases. This computer must share the TourTools® databases with the other workstations connected to your network. FileMaker strongly recommends that this computer’s only task be the hosting of TourTools®.
  • You must have a Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 or Windows 2003 server to operate TourTools® V3 with more than 2 users. The minimum specifications for the Apple OS or Windows host/server computer are:
  • A Pentium class processor running at 800 MHz or faster or a Mac G3 (we recommend buying the fastest available)
  • 500 MB RAM
  • 1 Gig of free space (or more) on the internal hard drive
  • Rev Date: 3/1/2004 1-800-818-6404 – www.tourtools.com
  • 1 Most of these specifications exceed the minimum requirements stated by FileMaker Inc.
  • TourTech Systems, Inc.
  • 15” color monitor with video card to support 256 colors or higher
  • SCSI or SATA drive with 10 gigabyte or more capacity
  • A copy of Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 or 2003 or Mac OS server in compliance with the Microsoft or Apple licensing agreement
  • A copy of FileMaker Pro Server installed on the computer in compliance with the FileMaker Pro licensing agreement
  • A TCP/IP connection to your local area network

FileMaker Inc. and TourTech Systems, Inc. strongly encourage that the server be configured so FileMaker Pro or FileMaker Pro server version be the only application running on the computer hosting the database. Users will experience varying degrees of performance degradation if additional applications are operated on the server simultaneously with FileMaker Pro.

At least one computer in your network must have a DSL connection so that you can connect to the TourTech Systems, Inc. technical support staff’s computers or our technical support staff can log into your computer. Failure to provide access to your computer network for our technical support staff may result in a delay of technical support for your version of TourTools®. TourTech Systems, Inc. is not responsible for any loss or inconvenience incurred by you or your staff, which might be caused by the inability to access the computer network.

TourTech Systems, Inc. cannot warrant or guarantee the performance of TourTools® on any computer whether or not it meets these specifications due to the uncertain nature of the interaction among other software loaded on the computer or available on your network, or due to variations in computer hardware. Our support staff will make reasonable efforts to assist you with the diagnosis and solution to problems related to networks, hardware and software interaction but the responsibility for those solutions is your sole responsibility.

For your network and cabling, we recommend a minimum of 100Base-T network, with switching hub, and Cat 5 wire cabling. We caution against using any coaxial cabling (such as RG-8, RG-11 or RG-58), 10Base-5 (Thick Ethernet) networks, 10Base-2 (Thin Ethernet) networks, daisy chain configurations, or any other direct connection scheme that does not utilize a hub.

These specifications are subject to change.
